Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1
Opportunity:
Residents of areas affected by Hurricane Michael have now received disaster tax
relief, however most residents do not have the capabilities to process the due
diligence necessary to claim the relief.
The
Who: Residents of Hurricane Michael
affected areas that have been declare a Federal Disaster Area
The
What: Residents are unable to process
and perform all of the due diligence necessary to claim the tax relief.
The
Why: The amount of documentation
required by the IRS to claim the relief can be overwhelming.
Hypothesis: I believe that with the proper team and technology
residents can process and maximize their disaster tax relief.
Interviews
Findings:
1. Most residents of the affected area
agree that the task to collect all of the information necessary to file for tax
relief is dauting.
2. More than ½ feel like they don’t even
know where to begin.
3. All residents fear that even with the
documentation that they “think” they need, they will still not have “all” that
they need when an IRS audit occurs.
4. All of the interviewees welcomed the idea
of a team that could help with maximizing their relief and putting lost money
back into their pockets.
Hi Shannon,
ReplyDeleteYour post was really informative. I did not realize that there were so many steps that we would have to go through just to claim the relief. I do understand that the IRS would want to take precautions when it comes to tax relief because if they did not make sure that each person claiming this relief did not provide the necessary information, then it could become a free-for-all. I think it would also be great if there was a team that would go around and help all those who were affected to make sure that they are getting the help that they need.
Hey Shannon,
ReplyDeleteI found the opportunity you are pursuing to be a very noble one, and I commend you for that. I didn't know that there are still residents in Hurricane Michael affected areas that still need to claim relief. It doesn't surprise me, however, since trying to complete paperwork issued by the government and waiting the necessary time is always a hassle. I'd be curious to see what your interviewees had to say, good work on this post.
